The Blog-osphere | Is a blog right for your business?

I had a wonderful conversation recently with Martha Londagin of Startup Junkie (hi, Martha!!), and she brought up a topic that I love: blogging. She mentioned the importance of businesses utilizing blogging appropriately; not just throwing some words on a page and calling it a day. There is real strategery* behind blogging that creates a stronger connection with your clientele and also provides important ROI to your business. Keep reading to learn why and how to enter the blog-osphere!

Shameless plug: I’d love to help you with your blog development and writing. Email me if I can help you. Or, if you know someone who could benefit from business blogging, please forward this on!

Why Blogging?

We have a million ways to connect with consumers - through our websites, direct mail, social media, etc., etc. I’m a fan of blogging because of the brand awareness and messaging that some of the other outlets make difficult. With a blog, you have much more space to showcase your true brand voice, allowing your readership to get to know you better. You’re not having to whittle down your message to 280 characters. You have room to tell the whole story.

Your blog becomes an authentic channel that proves your credibility, experience, and trustworthiness to your target audience. This creates a higher value for your service or product and gives you a competitive advantage in your respective industry.

Sounds nice, right?

What’s GOOD blogging?

blog set up

I’m not going to lie, effective blogging requires time and energy. There are a number of things to include, but I’ll list a few that can start a strong foundation for your blogging strategery:

  • A good blog is insightful, entertaining, and encourages the reader to do something (see fourth bullet).

  • The more searchable keywords you use, the higher your SEO, and the more likely consumers will find your business online.

  • You should always, always include information on what your business does and how the reader can benefit from it.

  • The reader should want to sign up for your newsletter, download a free resource, connect on LinkedIn…some action that you request so that you can keep in touch with updates, product launches, events, and other business news.

  • There are A LOT more but I don’t want to overwhelm anyone!

Main Takeaway: The blog should benefit both the reader AND the business. Don’t miss the mark by leaving out a critical feature of your blog: relationship building and business development.

How do I start my blog?

Blogs are not nearly as intimidating as some might think. Your current business website probably offers a blogging platform or you can invest a little money in Squarespace, WordPress, or a number of other blogging platforms. Then, get to writing and include some of the blogging best practices from above. Business Blogging 101 is a free resource to download that I thought was helpful in getting started.

If blogging sounds like a valuable addition to your marketing plan (which it is) but you don’t have the bandwidth or skillset to develop it or post consistently, then you’re in luck…I can help! Email me back to set up a time to discuss.

Ok, that’s all I have for you! Have a great rest of the day, and please let me know how I can help with your writing needs 🤍.

Thank you!
